Potential and Existing Tourism Products
The island was given no name at first. It serves as a port of call for trade ships travelling from China to Southeast Asia destinations such as Singapore, Java, and various locations on the Malay Peninsula. Salt ships from Singgora (Southern Thailand) use the island as a stopover on their way to Kuala Terengganu. The island was given the name Perhentian Island since it is regularly used as a port of call for cruise ships. That is the island where ships come to a halt or rest before continuing their journey. Until now, the island is still used as a shelter for ships from strong winds and big waves.
Perhentian Island is covered in dense forest, offering a haven for
wildlife such as animals, birds, insects, and reptiles that thrive in the
island's habitat. Because of the densely forested canopy, some shade from
certain species is accessible and spread throughout the understory. In such
situations, the significance of the most important plant structures and trees
is emphasized. Animals rely heavily on the presence of trees for a variety of
reasons, including the fact that they are the primary components of the forest
canopy. The forest is home to canopy-dwelling creatures and serves as a crucial
source of food for the survival of all living things. This type of engagement
is critical in paving the path for land ecotourism on the island.
